In anticipation of New York Theatre Ballet’s Artistic Director, Steven Melendez’s appearance at Safe Harbour’s Night Without a Tux gala on February 24, there will be a free screening of the award-winning documentary, LIFT:A Journey from Homelessness to the Ballet Stage which features Melendez.
Join us on February 23 at 6:00 PM in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium (ATS) at 360 W Louther Street, Carlisle as Safe Harbour, the Office of the President, and Dickinson CCLA for the screening of ‘LIFT.: A Journey from Homelessness to the Ballet Stage’ Filmed over a decade, this documentary illuminates the hidden struggles of homelessness in America through the poignant journey of young ballet dancers facing home insecurity in New York City. Artistic Director Steven Melendez, a former resident of a Bronx shelter, returns to his roots to offer a New York Theatre Ballet workshop to children, only to embark on an unexpected journey of self-discovery with three young dancers. Under the direction of Oscar-nominated Director David Petersen and Executive Misty Copeland.
The event will be followed by a Q&A session with Steven Melendez to deepen the conversation surrounding the film.
